How We Went Green

Philosophy:
Our firm takes pride in bringing efficiency to our clients through our many services. We believe that through the integration of technology and a respect for our natural resources, we can drastically improve the way we run our business.

History:
Tax offices are notorious for being large consumers of products and resources. From the vast amounts of paper used and wasted through the endless printing or tax returns and file to copying client documentation, faxes and the printing of e-mails; to the use of office supplies, folders, toners, ink cartridges and more. We believe that this method of running a tax practice is on its way out and that a new era of professional firm preparation is on the horizon.

So how does a tax office go green?
Scanners: We no longer will need to make copies of new clients prior year returns and copies of their current year source documentation. With sophisticated scanning technology and a seamless integration into a Document Management System (DMS) we are able to maintain all of our client’s history without the need for using additional paper.

File Folders: As we move ahead into a paperless era, we will no longer need to consume file folders for records, documents, etc. This will not only save paper, but create an incredibly efficient and satisfying client experience.

Trees: All clients that set up a new business entity with our firm will have 50 trees planted on their new company’s behalf by the Arbor Day Foundation in an effort to restore our National Forests.

Recycling: Our office does not throw away glass or aluminum recyclables. We make sure that only the absolute necessary waste goes to our landfills and that we recycle and reuse whatever items we can. Fax machines: We converted our fax system to an electronic faxing system. No longer will our fax machine print out unwanted junk-fax solicitations or use paper on items that will directly merge into our DMS.

Used Paper: We still have a need for some paper use and from time to time we have to get rid of older files and folders. We use a document destruction company that recycles all the material it shreds from our office. So even the paper we do have to get rid of is not wasted. This includes the countless junk mail and solicitations received in our mail box every day.

We are continuously looking at ways to improve our office and reduce our resource consumption. Plans are already underway to replace our lighting system with an ECO-friendly system that will reduce energy consumption and provide safer disposal of older light bulbs. If you have any suggestions for our office, please let us know.
